Monotype is a printmaking technique where a unique image is painted or drawn on a smooth surface, then transferred to paper, producing a one-of-a-kind print. Botanical relief involves creating prints from the textured surfaces of plants, using ink or paint to capture their intricate details on paper.

This piece is the very first monotype I have ever created, 5 years ago in 2019. I have created many monotypes since then, finding the technique to be both a freeing and intuitive process. For this particular monotype, I collected a variety of leaves from outside and brought them back to the studio, where I inked and added them to the composition taking shape on my plexiglass surface. After printing, I enhanced some of the ink colors with color pencils.
