This ceramic bust sculpture stands as a tribute to the indomitable spirits of the legendary ancient Celtic queen Boudica and of the lost blue-painted tribes of Picts, who both, at different times on the same isles, valiantly resisted Roman empirical rule. Though paying homage to a tumultuous era of resistance, the clay resisted me as this figure emerged, insisting on a calm expression during the defiance – not agony, not fear, not hate, but rather a stoic self assurance. “Here we are, here we remain.”
