My passion is to sculpt portrayals of empowered women and powerful femininity. The stories and images we share and tell of one another affects the way we view and treat one another. I sculpted this bust of an ancient woman so that we may remember our ancestral women – their ancient wisdom, their primordial stories – and as a reminder that back and back and back, we all come from the same woman.

This bust was sculpted from raku clay and fired in the raku method – an exciting method of removing the ceramic from the kiln while still hot at 1850 degrees Fahrenheit and placing the ceramic in a trash can full of newspaper or saw dust. The newspaper bursts into flames, and the trash can is covered to keep the heat and flames inside. The burning away causes the glazes to have unpredictable non-homogeneous effects.
