I was interviewed a second time by Canvas Rebel! Honestly, this actually happened several months ago, but I felt too vulnerable to share it at the time. In the conversation, I open up about the personal experiences that have shaped my art—the years of chronic pain I endured, navigating mental health challenges, and grappling with anger at a society that often diminishes the value of women. These experiences directly inform the themes I explore in my work: empowerment, body positivity, and the female experience.
I talk a bit about returning to college at the age of 30, which allowed me to reclaim my creative life and channel these experiences into my art. I completed my BFA in Studio Arts, explored multiple mediums, and even filmed an indie feature film with my brother. My work spans acrylic painting, fiber sculptures, ceramics, and printmaking—all unified by a focus on empowering women’s narratives and reclaiming historical portrayals of the female figure. From surreal, dreamlike paintings to busts of ancestral matriarchs in ceramics, each piece is a reflection of the challenges, insights, and wisdom I’ve carried through life.
I’d love to hear if any parts of my story resonate with you!
